These terms apply between you and Halvard, an independent developer based in France (“we”, “us”), when you play Cairnheim. If you bought the game on itch.io, itch.io is the seller: it takes the payment and handles refunds under its own policy. If you later play it through Steam, the Steam Subscriber Agreement applies to that copy, and refunds follow Steam’s refund policy. How we handle data is described in the Privacy Policy.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and play Cairnheim for your
own non-commercial use. You may not copy, resell or redistribute the game or its assets, or
reverse-engineer it, except where the law allows it. The game includes third-party software and fonts
listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt, each under its own licence.
There is no account and no password. Your colony is tied to a token stored on your computer and to a recovery code shown to you in the game. Anyone who has your recovery code can take your colony: keep it private. Using the code on another computer moves the colony there and disconnects the previous one. We cannot recover a colony for someone who has lost both the token and the code.
Your player name is public and, once chosen, you cannot change it yourself. It must not be offensive, sexual, hateful, or imitate another person, the developer, or staff. We may change a name that breaks these rules.
Every colony that has been played is listed in the public directory and can be visited in read-only mode by any player. Do not put anything in your colony or your name that you would not want other players to see.
When you use the chat, choose a name, or otherwise interact with the game, you agree not to:
You can mute players and report messages in the game. Reports are read by a person; a report does not remove anything by itself.
Depending on how serious the breach is, we may hide messages from the channel, rename a player, mute a colony in the channel for a period of time, and, in serious or repeated cases, delete the colony. If you think a decision about you is wrong, write to cairnheim_admin@proton.me and we will look at it again.
You remain responsible for what you write. By posting in the channel, you allow us to store it and show it to other players inside the game for as long as it is kept (see the Privacy Policy).
Runestones, coins, goods and everything else earned in the game are part of the game only. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought, sold or exchanged for money or anything outside the game, and do not belong to you as property.
Cairnheim is updated over time. Updates can change the rules, balance and content, and therefore how your colony develops. We keep recent earlier versions of each colony to repair problems, but we do not guarantee that a colony can be restored to any particular point.
Cairnheim is in early access. If an update ever makes existing colonies unplayable, we may have to reset every colony and start the world over. It is a last resort, not a routine, and we would announce it in the game before it happens.
The game is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss of progress, interruptions of the service, or indirect damage. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country, including legal guarantees of conformity, which continue to apply.
You can stop playing at any time and ask us to delete your colony (see the Privacy Policy, section 6). We may delete your colony if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the game before the change applies. If you do not accept the new terms, you can stop playing and ask us to delete your colony.
These terms are governed by French law, without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. Before any dispute, please contact us at cairnheim_admin@proton.me.
